Mercedes-Benz is signing off 2014 with the launch of the all-new
C-Class. While it gave a sneak peak of the car at a tech fair in
Bangalore few days ago, the official unveil happened at Delhi today.
The
new C-Class 200 gets a highish price tag of ₹40.9 lakh (ex-showroom,
Delhi), which should push the on-road price close to the ₹50 lakh mark.
This makes it nearly as expensive as the bigger E-Class. But Merc
insists this is because of the amount of car being offered. Dubbed by
many as a shrunken S-Class, the smaller C does carryover a lot of design
cues from the Merc flagship limo and boasts of a lot of features like
touchpad to navigate the multimedia system, wood finish and luxurious
seats and a plethora of safety features.
The engine is the
familiar 2.0-litre petrol with 181bhp and 300Nm. This is mated to the
seven-speed automatic. Car comes with paddle shifts. The C200 has an
approximate top speed of 235kph and a claimed 0-100kph time of 7.3
seconds. Mercedes claims the new C200 is capable of 14.7kpl, which may
not be the point of owning a C-Class, but the new one does seem to live
up to its nickname of being a Baby S offering a luxury feel in a sporty
package.
